Know these important periods and dates when enrolling for Medicare

As you get closer to signing up for a Medicare plan, make sure you understand the process, the guaranteed issue period, initial election period and SEP leaving employer coverage.

IMPORTANT DATES TO REMEMBER

Guaranteed Issue Period – Medicare rules provide a Guaranteed Issue periods to enroll in Medicare Supplement, Medicare Advantage and Part D plans without underwriting.

Initial Election Period (IEP) – 7 month window (3 months before birthday month, birthday Month, 3 months after birthday month)

SEP Leaving Employer Coverage – Medicare rules also provide a 63 days period to enroll in a Medicare on a Guaranteed Issue basis.

OTHER IMPORTANT DATES

October 1st -Plan information available for renewing plans

October 15th -December 7th -Annual Enrollment Period (AEP) Begins

January-March -Open Enrollment Period (changing Med Advantage)
